Stella Jougakuin Koutouka C3-bu

Based on the "Tokurei Sochi Dantai Stella Jougakuin Koutouka C3-bu" manga written by Ikoma with art by Tomomoka Midori, this slice-of-life comedy series is all about a group of girls and their daily shenanigans in the school's airsoft gun survival game club.

Been looking forward to and quite enjoyed its first episode, it felt like the all-girls school vibe of "Maria-sama ga Miteru" coupled with the new friendships within a club element of "KON!" all mixed up with the girls involved in gun and warfare element of "Upotte!".

Where the first episode starts off feeling like "Maria-sama ga Miteru" with a shy girl her first day in an all-girl school, it soon pulls out the silly comedy card with the crazy antics of the airsoft survival game club members as well as heartwarming slice-of-life with Yura's introduction into the club, a scene not unlike that in "K-ON!" when Azusa was reeled into the light music club.

The animation by studio Gainax is decent to good. With the overall design style of the characters being on the cute side there is not that much room to excel or venture into daring animation so Gainax seems to stick to a simple, cute style that fits the girls and series' theme well.

Nonetheless, all of the action sequences of the airsoft gun war game was well executed, with fluid animation, good backgrounds and plenty of attention to the lighting and shadows.

Timid Yura is voiced by Makino Yui, she previously voiced Hazuki in "Sketchbook ~full color'S~", Kyouko in "Taishou Yakyuu Musume" and Sakura in "Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle".

Sawashiro Miyuki voices Sonora, she has tackled roles like Kanbaru in "Bakemonogatari", Perrine in "Strike Witches", Yomi in "Black Rock Shooter", Inaba in "Kokoro Connect" and Shinku in "Rozen Maiden".

Bespectacled Honoka is voiced by Saito Chiwa who previously voiced Aika in "Aria", Senjougahara in "Bakemonogatari", Homura in "Puella Magi Madoka Magica", Tsurugi in "Sasami-san@Ganbaranai" and Sara in this season's "Inu to Hasamia wa Tsukaiyou".

Kayano Ai voices feisty blonde Karila, she previously voiced Muginami in "Rinne no Lagrange", Saori in "Girls und Panzer", Mashiro in "Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo" and voices Kanae in this season's "Tamayura ~More Aggressive~".

Lively Rento is voiced by Nishizaki Rima who doesn't seem to have any other roles credited to her name. Yonezawa Madoka voices energetic Yachiyo, she previously voiced characters like Ui in "K-ON!", Mayura in "RDG: Red Data Girl" and Izumi in "Another".

Regardless of studio Gainax previous works and reputation, it seems that "Stella Jougakuin Koutouka C3-bu" will be a fairly normal slice-of-life action comedy that should provide a fun weekly watch.

Based on the first episode alone have a feeling it will end up ranking somewhere better than "Upotte!" but just shy of the excellent "Girls und Panzer", so personally am definitely going to keep on watching this series.
